I Met Youth Lagoon

Seventeen by Youth Lagoon

I remember everything, from the moment I first spotted the curly-haired man in orange hippie garb to the moment I tried speaking to him. My memory of that short time is so vivid in my brain, I hope it stays that way even as years go by.

I first came across Youth Lagoon's music last year when I was discovering artists from the 2013 Coachella line-up. I really enjoyed his music and I instantly felt a connection. It makes me feel all sorts of things. Sometimes music does that to me and listening to it makes it an even better experience. Of course, like the geek that I am, I wanted to learn more about Youth Lagoon and started reading about the brilliance that is Trevor Powers. I even wrote about him back in March. He's one of the artists that I feel a strong affinity to because I can somewhat relate to his music. His words are beautiful and speak so much. I read somewhere that his music is to some extent an extension of himself and feels like pages off his journal. Flash forward to 25 January, I was in the crowd and he was on stage. I kept remembering that little piece of information when I was watching him perform. I was in awe of him and his art and I couldn't believe I was there to witness it.

I should probably first mention that I was at Singapore last January 23-27 for St. Jerome's Laneway Festival to see him and many more great artists.

Now, here's how I remember meeting Trevor.

Lomokino Test Shots

I've finally come around to getting my first roll of film using the Lomokino developed and edited the scans. I wasn't too sure about how everything worked out yet and how it would turn out. So, this was more of a test roll and me figuring out about the settings and everything else. Here are some of the stills.

I'm starting this thing on my blog wherein I recommend websites that I enjoy visiting. It's just a little something I'll be putting at the end of each blogpost.

Today's recommended site is Jackson Pollock by Milton Manetas. Enjoy!

Vampire Weekend in Singapore

This was the day I have been waiting for... for four years. I was finally going to see Vampire Weekend perform live. It felt so surreal. I still can't believe it. I've been anticipating this moment ever since me and my friends arrived at Singapore and it was finally happening. It was incredible. I felt so happy to be alive. To see your favorite band play live is the best feeling ever. And to be in front and center of the crowd made it even more epic. For years, these guys have only ever been on my laptop and on my iPod. And then to see them there, in front of me, is truly unbelievable. I just wish I had the chance to meet them personally. Maybe next time. Hopefully...

Big Night Out featured Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Unfortunately for us, we had to miss Yeah Yeah Yeahs to catch our midnight flight but I was more than fine with it because Vampire Weekend already made me the happiest girl that night. But yeah, nbd. C'est la vie... [It might have something to do with Ezra locking eyes with me for a second too.]

Here are some pictures.
Disclaimer: It's a lot of Ezra and no Rostam because all my pictures of him turned out blurry. :(

2012: Anything Could Happen

2012 has been quite the year for me. It has been filled with a lot of new and exciting experiences that I couldn't believe all happened in just a year. I've met new friends, made stronger ties, ventured on different challenges, visited various places, and survived the end of the world. But most of all, I've grown so much and matured through out this year. I've had my highest of highs and my lowest of lows because that's just how life goes. This has been my most pivotal year because from here on out, things are going to be different. The change might be alien to me but sometimes, change is good. 2013 will be good, I just have this visceral feeling it will be.

Generator First Floor

We spent a good amount of our time at Marina Bay Sands because my mom's friend, who was also there for a short hiatus, was staying there. It was a big place and there sure was a lot to do there.

I absolutely love this wall of colors.
The room with a foggy view. The rain was about to pour before I took this photo.
Here I am lounging on the bed.
You can see the Merlion from the room.
This is probably the scariest job ever!
Apparently there was an event/fashion show.

I liked our little lunch at TWG Tea. Every thing on the menu was infused with different kinds of tea from around the world. This is where we were given those heavenly macarons. They've recently opened a branch in Greenbelt 5, I think.

I think every night we went up to Skypark but only swam on our last night.

Goodbye for now, Singapore.

Oh, please tell me you're a Freelance Whales fan. Listen to this!

Lover of the Light

It was my first time in Singapore and I was practically exploring it on my own. My mom was there for a conference so I had the mornings to myself. It was quite fun and liberating to roam the streets on my own. I must also admit that I was really enjoying traveling by MRT there. I actually felt like a local. That was probably because a tourist (to my judgement) asked me directions about the mrt card. Sadly, I didn't know the answer to his question. fail.

My agenda was to go to a whole lot of shopping malls and I did. I was walking for 5 hours straight and I don't know how many miles I covered. If only I had one of those Nike things that counts how many steps you did, I bet mine would read past a thousand. My legs were absolutely beat the whole trip but it was worth it.

This felt more like a shopping trip than a tour trip which is more than fine by me. Although we wanted to go to the Night Safari, it didn't quite fit our schedule. Maybe next time.

Here is my side of our lovely hotel room with absolutely slow internet.
Bugis
The sting ray which was ridiculously spicy.
When I saw this my jaw dropped because 1) Chocolate!!! 2) S$38++ per person? What?

Watch this beautiful music video for Lover Of The Light starring Idris Elba.

Singapura

November 7-11, 2012

I'm currently in Singapore and I'd like to share these photographs I took. I've had a lot of alone time to roam and get lost in the streets of Singapore and I really did get lost. At one point I found myself in a skate park. So, of course I looked like a massive tourist just snap snap snapping pictures or looked like a legit professional photographer. You choose.
I'll blog more about my trip once I get back. Last full day tomorrow until we leave.

hi.
